This page explains our rehoming process for all animals.
Deise Animal Sanctuary, which is located in the Waterford county area, close to the River Suir is a charity that takes in all types of animals. Like all charities and not for profits we have a limit to how many animals we can take. When there is an overflow of rehoming requests we refer to this as “Private Rehoming”. This means the animal is NOT on our site but in a foster or the owner is still holding them. As per our Board meeting August 2023 the new rehoming and adoption system is to be implemented in September 2023 and is as follows:

We do NOT disclose your personal details to anyone! Only the small team that is managing the rehoming/adoption process has access to your information. We do not call around to see if people know like some shelters do or not for profits, we dont care if people love you or hate you… Our only interest is finding your pet the right home.
We know adopting a pet is a big step! Adopting a rescue is a fabulous way to help Ireland keep the euthanizing statistics down in the pounds. Adopting a rescue dog and cat can be quite rewarding. Howevever, these are animals, some of which have had a very bad start in life. They feel pain, sorrow, lonelyness, anxiety just like humans – so anyone who adopts a pet MUST be prepared to give your new pet a few months to settle in. Its very rare a dog, cat, rabbit etc will settle in immediately.
If you have existing pets, there may be a territorial fight, some jealousy and tension at the beginning. This is why it is very important that you introduce the new rescue to other animals in your home at least once before adopting. And after that dont expect them to just be best friends. Sometimes they are, sometimes it takes time.
Pets are for life!
Sometimes people get sick, they have to leave the country and there are genuine reasons for them to rehome their beloved pet. Other times people get pets for their kids – the kids get sick of the pet and then they contact a shelter to rehome the animal.
*** We do NOT rehome animals to anyone who says, my 2 year old needs a puppy or kitten to play with *** Unfortunately this mindset is still quite common in Ireland. Animals are not toys so dont treat them as such!
